Husband and wife team, Ere and Peta founded Tuk Tuk Safari to help visitors get the most out of their time in Vientiane. They love living in Laos and have a passion for showcasing the secret attractions that Vientiane has to offer!
Ere grew up in Vientiane along with his three brothers and three sisters. Ere’s family were not wealthy, and at just 15-years-old Ere left school to drive a tuk tuk full-time to support his family. He was the main breadwinner for his family for several years and learnt a lot about the capital’s streets and traversing them in a tuk tuk!
Peta was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. After finishing university, she moved to Vientiane to teach English in 2001 at the age of 21. Peta met Ere, then aged 20, when he drove her home from work one day in his tuk tuk. They sparked up a romance, despite the initial cultural and communication barriers, and they have been together ever since!
In 2003 they married and moved to live Sydney in 2004, but kept dreaming of Laos and returned to Vientiane with their young son in 2012.
Back in Vientiane, while driving his tuk tuk, Ere noticed many tourists found it difficult to find fun and authentic local activities. This was frustrating for Ere and Peta, as they couldn’t bear to think that others were missing out on all the interesting things to do in their hometown.
Peta and Ere created Tuk Tuk Safari to share the secrets of the city they know and love with others. They offer a full range of fun and memorable day trips designed to help travellers explore Lao life and culture in Vientiane.
